Mexico's most dynamic sectors have been in non-oil related manufactured goods. In fact, manufactured exports currently represent 80% of Mexico's total exports. Likewise, there has been tremendous growth in the number of maquila (assembly) plants, a total of 4,367 as of September 1998.
